Before I jump into questions (and hopefully answers!), I thought I should talk a little about who I am and where I'm coming from. I'm Kassandra Troy, Kas for short-- an RN (certified in Women's Health by AWHONN) and mom to two rambunctious boys. I work in Labor & Delivery and Ante-/Postpartum-- I've been here for almost five years, and I've practiced for over ten years. I always wanted to take care of pregnant women and new mommies and babies, so I'm doing what I love-- but that doesn't mean I'm blind to what I see as faults in my field. Hospitals are wonderful places when we need them-- and they can be downright awful places when we don't. In my time here I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly in all sorts of people-- doctors, nurses, midwives, doulas, and even patients. They all have their place.

I had a cesarean with my first son, after a rough induction and a long labor. I chose to have my second son at home, with lots of good support, after reading and thinking a lot about it. I freely admit that I'm biased toward the more naturally-minded mamas who come into my hospital, but I firmly maintain the adage, "Moderation in all things, or, It takes all kinds." Birth is amazing, wherever it takes place. My goal is to support mothers and families-- to meet them where they are and go from there.

I love research, and I try to keep well informed on the issues in pregnancy and birth. If I don't immediately know the answer to a question, I find out-- or it'll drive me crazy! I look forward to your questions, and I hope I can be a helpful resource for you!

All the best,

Kas
