1. State Insurance Commissioner:

Our agency assists individuals and businesses through our various divisions and as the Director of Insurance, it is my first priority to protect the interests of South Carolina’s insurance consumers by making sure our mission is carried out successfully.

2. State Medical Board:

The Board’s primary mission is protection of the public. In fulfilling this charter it has two    major functions. (1) licensing physicians, physician assistants, respiratory care practitioners, anesthesiologist’s assistants, acupuncturists, cardiovascular invasive specialists and; (2)investigating and disciplining physicians, physician assistants, respiratory care practitioners, anesthesiologist’s assistants, acupuncturists and cardiovascular invasive specialists found to be engaged in misconduct as defined by the Medical Practice Act. This includes illegal, unethical or incompetent conduct.

3. State Minority Office:

The mission of the Office of Minority Health (OMH) is to provide leadership and serve as a focal point for addressing health disparities and other minority health issues in South Carolina.

4. State Nursing Board:

The purpose of the Board of Nursing is to assure the safe and effective practice of nursing in South Carolina.The Board licenses qualified individuals as registered nurses or licensed practical nurses. Complaints are investigated and disciplinary action taken whenever necessary.

5. State Midwives Organization:

To effect healthy outcomes, midwives strive to care for the whole woman. Nutrition counseling, exercise guidelines, stress management, compassionate listening, health education, resource referral and preparation for birth typically complement the clinical assessments of each visit.

Our purpose is to educate health care consumers about nurse midwives and the care offered to women across a lifetime.

7. State Healthy Start or Associated Improved Pregnancy Program/Director’s email:

Healthy Families America is a national program model designed to help expectant and new parents get their children off to a healthy start. Families participate voluntarily in the program and receive home visiting and referrals from trained staff.

The mission of the Division of WIC Services in the Bureau of Maternal and Child Health is to provide leadership to assure the health and well being of women, infants and children.
